About Aspen Harrison

My name is Aspen Harrison. I am a representational watercolor artist. I paint to tell stories and make connections. I love to create things that are personal and hold value; I love to paint memories. The ones that are the most fulfilling to me are those normal, everyday moments of simple connection. The moments that provide a feeling of reassurance, security, and love. I am greatly inspired by children and familial relationships. There is something so innocent and pure about children. From how they carry themselves, connect with their surroundings, and process emotion. Using soft vibrant colors and high key light, I strive to capture a luminous quality that amplifies the spirit and personality of the place or individual.”

“I have found that even the simplest of subject matter can communicate an intimate, emotional narrative. Memories are stored in all sorts of things from places to people, colors, or objects. This imagery helps us remember where connections and relationships grow.”

“Color and lighting are the main elements utilized to create the mood of my pieces. I don’t just want to capture what a moment may look like, I want to capture how it feels. This is also why I like painting with watercolor. It is a very expressive medium that I can’t always control. I can choose to paint very precisely, or very freely and loosely. It is a liberating experience working wet into wet and letting the water take control, charging puddles with extra paint and watching it spread. When it dries it looks like the water is frozen in time. It’s similar to what I do with the memories I paint. The permanent capture of how the water moves brings more life and motion to my artwork.”
